The annual grain output of Northeast China's Jilin province in 2022 stands at 40.8 billion kilograms, an increase of 416 million kg over last year, setting a record high, according to the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The total output ranks Jilin province fifth in the country in regards to grain production.

As a major grain-producing province, Jilin's annual grain output has exceeded 35 billion kilograms for 10 consecutive years.

Jilin now ranks fourth in the country in increased grain-sown area. Their area now measures at 86.78 million mu (5.79 hectrares), an increase of 957,000 mu from the previous year.

Jilin's grain yield per unit area is 470.27 kg/mu,  ranking first among the 10 major grain-producing provinces. The province's black soil conservation tillage area has also expanded to 32.83 million mu, ranking first in the country.

Last year, the province began the implementation of their 50-billion-kg grain production capacity improvement project. In 10 years, the annual grain output is expected to exceed 50 billion kg.

In order to further improve the standards and quality of its farmland development, Jilin is focusing on the layout of functional areas in grain production and agricultural protection areas. The province is currently carrying out land leveling activities and constructing more field roads, irrigation and drainage channels, river bank slope protection and farmland power grids.
