Greater cooperation will be the focus as Eastern European leaders and Chinese President Xi Jinping meet on the back of China signing a $2.6 million deal with Hungary to build a hub for Fudan University in Budapest.
In an online video conference on Monday, the so-called 17+1 leaders will discuss how they can better work together as they now tackle the pandemic and investment in green energy.
"Hungary is one of China's most important allies economically and politically," said Tamas Matura, founder of the Central and Eastern European Center for Asian Studies.
"We are the third biggest partner in the region, and one of the biggest exporters to China. I think it's great news that one of the best universities in China is about to open a campus in Budapest.
"It's good news for Europe and Hungary."
